Alternate Reality

I ran across these photographs, by Richard Mosse titled the "infra series". He uses a discontinued military technology called Kodak Aerochrome. Originally used to detect those in camouflage, it alters the landscape, turning the green landscape into shades of pinks and purples. The photos are taken in the Congo, to depict the ongoing war and it's landscape. Do you ever wonder what the world would look like if green was pink and blue was yellow? When I was little I thought everybody saw colors differently but called them the same thing, like we all have our own vision or alternate reality. I think that's why I found these images to be so captivating.

Isn't it fab?!

JCrew Love

Whenever I am lacking in fashion inspiration, rest assured all I must do is open a JCrew catalogue and my wardrobe suddenly seems more versatile. Jenna Lyons is frickin brilliant and the way she styles the most basic pieces into something special is a skill we can all find inspiration in. Here are some JCrew images that have inspired me lately.

inspired yet?

Grandpa is 86.

My Grandpa Don turned 86 and we went out to a nice dinner at Cafe Via in Birmingham. This is the same place we went this year for my Birthday as well. It's comfortable but still feels very special, it's quiet and food is fantastic. My Grandparent's are just the best and I always look forward to family dinners with them. They are really special.

we sat in the Violet room, which is also used as a florist.
This is the special room, reservations must be made.

Happy Birthday Bumpy Cake!
It's a Detroit thing...

Cafe Via has these little cases in their halls filled with random collectible.
Aren't these cuff links pretty major?

The outdoor fire place!

GG's

So, as much as I love awards shows, let's be honest, the red carpet may be my favorite part. I still watch the awards show and love the awkward moments and moving speeches but the dresses! oh man! These are my favorites/top picks from last night.

Angelina Jolie in Versace

Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci

Heidi Klum in Calvin Klein and Lorraine Schwartz turqoise necklace

Kelly Macdonald in Lorena Sarbu

Maria Menounos in Alexander Wang

Jessica Chastain in Givenchy

Laura Dern in Andrew Gn.

Zooey Deschanel in Prada
Charlize Theron in Dior

A lot of websites/blogs are naming Charlize best dressed,
not sure that I agree. She does look FAB but I find some of
the other pieces more interesting and thoughful.
You can't deny her classic Hollywood look is beyond
romantic and perfect for an awards show.
Who would you choose for best dressed?

The Dirty Dog

Bob & I had a nice date night. It started out kinda rough, I had to pick him up from the Fisher Building downtown- he was playing on the Mitch Albom show and I totally got lost! Don't ask me how, but at least I snapped this pic of the Ren Cen on my ridiculous Detroit adventure.

Once I finally found my way (thank god for the Lodge), we headed to the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Point. This has become a great spot for jazz musicians to play and be heard. There is a great respect for the musicians here, probably because the woman who owns it, Gretchen Valade runs the Detroit Jazz Fest and Mack Ave. Records. Our friend Chris was playing last night, so we decided to check it out! ps- the food was amazing!

I HAD to get this wine! I graduated from Aquinas College in 10'.
crazy, eh?!

G. McKay on Drums, Perry Hughes on Guitar and Chris Codish on Organ.

She was so badass.

I think this was Bob's favorite part of the evening ;)

Happy Friday! Hope you have a great weekend.
Check out this fantastic article on Detroit in the Huffington Post.
