Riz's Wedding

This weekend my family travelled to Boston to celebrate the wedding of our dear friend Riz to his new wife, Ditha. I have known Riz for 12 years and he was basically my big brother growing up. He stood up in mine and Bob's wedding and he is family. We were honored to be a part of his wedding celebrations. We are spending the weekend in Boston so I will hopefully have some more fun things from our trip to share soon!

We attended their American wedding reception. Riz and Ditha were married in Indonesia (their home country) in December. The American reception was and intimate party held in a small art gallery in Waltham, MA.

NY Times Dialect Quiz

This is fun. And pretty damn accurate. Take this quiz, based on a 2002 Harvard dialect survey, to see what part of the US your dialect aligns with.

Here are my results... see... accurate!

snow.

we are covered in snow. it's awesome.

and we're supposed to get another 11" this weekend.

In honor of the snow, check out these images from Russian photographer Alexey Kljatov, who uses a homemade camera rig to take these amazing close-ups of the snowflakes that fall on his balcony.

 Check out his blog here.
Let it snow!

Christmas 2013

We had such a very merry Christmas this year. We set boundaries on where we would be when with which family. It was fantastic, relaxing and one of the best Christmas's we've had in years. We were with the Nelson's in the morning and the Mervak's in the evening. Boundaries friends, are difficult to do but create sanity and surprisingly, our families reacted to them well and were supportive! Here are some pics of our fantastic Christmas of 2013.

Best wishes to you all in 2014!
I have a feeling it's going to be a big year for us Nelson-Mervak's.

Christmas Eve 2013

We celebrated Christmas Eve this year, for the first time, not at my Grandparents house. It's just too much for them to host any longer- the sad truth of growing up. Traditions are passed from one generation to another. My sister Celia and I cooked the entire dinner at my parents house and had both of my sets of grandparents over, such a treat!

We made a brussel sprout dish.
Since when did they get so popular?!
